A pilot has apologised to a sunbather after footage emerged showing him almost flattening him with his plane as he soaked up some rays.
The holidaymaker was bathing on a beach on an island in northern Germany when he was almost struck by the incoming plane, piloted by Jeurgen Drucker.
The 52-year-old came within inches of colliding with the sunbather as he approached the runway in Heligoland, an island off the northern coast of Germany.
“It was me that was flying and I am really sorry. I have to say, as the pictures show, that it wasn’t one of my greatest achievements in the cockpit,” Drucker said.
“In my defence I can say that I didn’t see him because he was lying down and I’m just very grateful it worked out well and I didn’t land on him. I don’t want to say any more than that. I fear I will be in for a fine from the Federal Aviation Office but I hope I will be able to keep my licence.”
The pilot crashes into a fence before coming to a stop on the runway, but was able to fly home just fine later on that day…
