Winnie the Pooh could be banned from a playground – after prudish politicians branded the bear a half-naked hermaphrodite who is an inappropriate role model to children.
A A Milne’s lovable ursine protagonist was meant to be the namesake for a new park in Tuszyn, Poland.
However, councillors blocked the move after a heated debate in which concerns were raised about the fictional character’s minimal clothing and “dubious sexuality”.
During the animated discussion, one woman was heard explaining that Pooh’s gender ambiguity was manufactured by Milne.
“When the author turned 60, he cut off [Pooh’s] testicles with a rusty razor blade because of his own identity issues,” she told the meeting.
‘Poor role model’: Winnie the Pooh’s uncertain gender has proved a problem for councillors in Poland
Opponents of the ‘hunny-loving’ character have suggested that a fully clothed Polish cartoon bear, Miś Uszatek, be used instead.
However, many locals are not impressed that their elected representatives are devoting so much time to such a trivial issue.
One resident told Polish reporters: “Winnie the Pooh is a bear with low intellect, and unfortunately, this is also evident in those who are concerned with this topic.”
He then added: “Winnie the Pooh is an alcoholic and a liar.
“He walks with no underwear and has cut off his testicles.”
An official decision on Pooh’s fate has not yet been made.
